For all the beauty that Maine claims to hold, like the rest of us, even it has its dark spots.
I found out about the phenomenon known as the Desert of Maine and needed to know why this was happening.
The answer, as always, was human intervention.
A long time ago, a man over-logged, over-grazed and among other things, didn’t understand the environment which resulted in this natural curiosity and sometimes frisbee golf course.
And though it looks like sand, it’s not. And though it looks like a desert, it’s not. And though at a quick glance, you think it says “Dessert of Maine,” it certainly is not that either.
